The Arts Institute at Bournemouth

Established in 1885, the Arts Institute at Bournemouth has developed into one of Britain 's leading specialist university-sector institutions offering courses in the arts, design and media. The Institute's single campus consists of a series of purpose-built studios accommodating approximately 2000 students on full-time courses.

Bournemouth is located on the south coast of England , in the county of Dorset . The coastal environment, in combination with the warmer than average UK climate and vibrant social scene, provides an all-year-round holiday atmosphere. It is within easy reach of London , with regular train and coach services taking under two hours. The neighbouring town of Poole offers excellent ferry links to continental Europe .

Courses
The Arts Institute at Bournemouth has an excellent reputation in the creative industries and many of its specialist courses are considered to be among the best in the country. The value of a reputation cannot be overstated, and all institute students benefit from this advantage when they seek employment or advanced level education.

Short & Summer courses
The Arts Institute also has a number of short and summer courses, many of which do not require you to have any experience in the subject area.

There are two 10-week professional courses in Film and Commercial Photography and short courses throughout the year in a wide range of art, design and media related subjects.

Entry Requirements
As well as the academic requirements and English language levels of IELTS 5.5 – 6.5 or equivalent, the Institute would expect to see a portfolio of artwork for all courses, with the exception of BA (Hons) Arts and Event Production. Students applying for the BA Acting course would be expected to attend an audition or send in a video tape of their acting skills.

Facilities
There has been extensive development of the campus over the past five years to enhance the student and teaching facilities which now include a large library/conference centre, halls of residence, purpose built workshops and an enterprise pavilion with a number of business units for graduates who wish to set up their own businesses.

The Institute is a designated AppleMac centre of excellence, and is recognised for its standard of facilities. In 2005, the Institute was designated a Screen Academy Centre of Excellence in conjunction with Bournemouth Media School in recognition of the high levels of screen-based media education we provide – the Bournemouth Screen Academy is one of only seven Screen Academies awarded in the UK.

Workshops and studios are equipped to the latest industry standards and the award-winning library is purpose built and offers a wide range of specialist learning materials.

Student Life
The Arts Institute at Bournemouth prides itself on being able to provide a friendly and supportive environment for all students and especially for those far away from home. The International Office assists students from their initial enquiry through the application process and then on course until graduation.
